Stu Cantor is the founder and President of Next Decade Entertainment, Inc., a music publishing company which also provides music publishing administration services which he founded in 1989. He personally overseas all day-to-day activities of the company.
Mr. Cantor was President of the predecessor company, Buttermilk Sky Associates, Inc., which was founded in 1977. In that capacity, he oversaw all global publishing activities relating to their 3000 song catalog as well as the publishing catalogs of Orion Pictures, Orion Pictures Television and Judy Collins' music publishing companies.
Current clients include Harry Belafonte, Vic Mizzy (creator of the music for the "Addams Family" and "Green Acres" television shows), Lucy Simon, the Estate of Yip Harburg, which contains, among many others, the compositions "April In Paris" and "(It's Only) A Paper Moon," the Estate of Milton Gabler and the Estate of Jay Gorney. In addition, he represents publishing catalogs which include compositions recorded by Santana, Bob Marley, Joe Simon and Millie Jackson.
Mr. Cantor has served as Music Consultant to Warner Bros. for the motion picture release The Replacements starring Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman. His services were retained by Paramount Pictures to supervise the music for Odd Couple II - Travellin' Light starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon as well as the Warner Bros. box-office hit Grumpier Old Men. He has also served as Music Supervisor for the box-office blockbusters Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I, II, and III. His services included all creative and business affairs matters with regard to the compilation and release of the Platinum certified Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album for Turtles I and the Gold certified Soundtrack Album for Turtles II on EMI/SBK Records.
Mr. Cantor's television music supervision credits have included projects with Brillstein-Grey Productions and Castle Rock Entertainment. Additionally, Mr. Cantor helped develop the musical components of the adaptation of Alan Zweibel's book Bunny, Bunny, a play based on the relationship between Mr. Zweibel and Gilda Radner during their tenure as writer and performer on Saturday Night Live. This production opened Off-Broadway in March of 1997. Mr. Cantor served as music coordinator for the one man Broadway show Freak starring John Leguizamo.
As administrator of the "Addams Family Theme", Mr. Cantor coordinated and negotiated all agreements in connection with its use in the Paramount Pictures feature film, The Addams Family and the sequel, Addams Family Values. This involved not only securing its use in the film, but all merchandising, commercial tie-ins, soundtrack rights, advertising and other related areas including the licensing and development of multimedia products based on these feature film properties.
Mr. Cantor's music supervision credits include Gold albums for Beat Street and Against All Odds, and Platinum albums for The Woman In Red, Annie, Ghostbusters, and The Big Chill.
Mr. Cantor received his B.S degree in Business Administration and his M.S degree in accounting from C.W. Post College in Greenvale, New York. He currently resides in Long Island with his wife and two daughters.
